Integration Management Office (IMO) Post-Merger Integration Planning and Execution
The IMO makes sure the post-merger integration gets done, and gets done well. The below deliverables help it fulfill those mandates, starting with the pre-close governance decisions and ending with the transition to business as usual.
Pre-Close, the structural foundation is established: RACI matrices assigning clear ownership across every task, IMO charters defining responsibilities and reporting lines, kickoff decks aligning the Steering Committee and workstream leads on deal objectives, data sharing rules that maintain compliance, and a 100-day timeline that converts the deal thesis into a sequenced execution plan.
From Day 1 through Week 1, the IMO is firmly in command. It operates the war room, monitors every workstream in real time, manages cross-functional dependencies, and eliminates roadblocks before they become costly delays.
From Days 8 to 100, governance is implemented to the integration's end. The IMO pushes the pace, tracks open tasks, and evaluates team performance across planning, communication, and decision-making.
The performance of the IMO is what often separates integrations that deliver on the deal thesis from those that drift from it.
