Body
There are over 50 tasks in this sales integration plan to prepare for and execute on M&A Day 1. This a list of 10 of the more critical ones:
- Build the customer communication strategy — segment customers and map out the sequencing, channels, and key messages each group will hear.
- Create the M&A Customer Communication Guide — talking points, conversation guidance, and a Q&A, developed jointly with the Communications team.
- Draft the CEO-signed Day 1 customer announcement — the headline message to customers, focused on continuity and reassurance.
- Identify and prioritize the top 20 at-risk accounts — with account-specific retention talking points handed to each assigned account owner.
- Distribute the customer and employee communication guides to all sales managers — so every manager walks into Day 1 with the same script in hand.
- Run a Day 1 readiness dry run and clear the Readiness Gate — a rehearsal with sales leadership, then the formal checkpoint confirming systems are tested, communications are ready, and no blockers remain.
- Hold the Day 1 all-hands with the combined sales team — welcome, interim org structure, and priorities, delivered before reps start calling customers.
- Execute Day 1 customer outreach — CEO letters to the top 50 accounts, followed by check-in calls with the top 20 to capture concerns and sentiment.
- Lock down people and territories — create a retention plan for top performers and freeze territory assignments to prevent changes without formal approval.
- Confirm all Day 1 sales systems are operational — CRM, email, telephony, and quoting all working, so the team can actually sell on day one.
Together these move the workstream from prepared to live — every message written and rehearsed before close, then delivered to the the full sales team and highest-risk customers in the opening hours.
