Day One is a worldwide event and it needs to be treated as one. The integration team designs around three core goals: welcome acquired company employees into the organization, communicate the shared vision compellingly, and create the conditions for genuine collaboration going forward. Consistent execution across all sites — headquarters and field, salaried and shift workers, domestic and international — is non-negotiable. Every site gets the same message on the same day.
Four things must happen on Day One without exception. Every employee must know to whom they report. Payroll and benefits continuity must be maintained for all employees without interruption. Every manager and HR staff member must be prepared to answer the tough questions employees will ask — about their status, their job security, and what changes are coming. Every employee must know who their HR contact is and how to reach them. Selection and severance policies are communicated on Day One. Anything beyond that — changes to HR policies, compensation, benefits, or the start of outplacement processing — waits for a later phase.
The headquarters Day One schedule anchors the global event. The CEO-led town hall runs from 8:00 to 9:00am and telecasts worldwide. A welcome luncheon runs from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Division town halls run from 2:00 to 3:30pm. Remote locations and international sites receive the telecast and follow their country-specific plans for local engagement around the global event. . IT accessibility at close covers email continuity through existing addresses, access to current tools and applications, and continued access to existing intranet resources with key acquirer sites added.
