Sixty days before close, the clock starts ticking — and this plan is what HR needs to get done before Day 1.
The plan covers appointing the HR Lead, establishing governance, accessing employee data, building the HR charter, defining success measures, and creating the structure needed to manage the people side of the deal.
Due diligence is the foundational work. HR reviews the acquired organization from every angle: structure, headcount, turnover, leadership retention risk, employee engagement, compensation philosophy, equity programs, benefits, contractors, compliance requirements, and potential liabilities. The goal is not simply to collect information — it is to identify the people risks and decisions that could affect integration success.
The work then moves from understanding the organization to preparing employees for change. Compensation and benefits comparisons identify gaps and potential issues. Talent reviews highlight key employees who need retention attention. Systems planning focuses on employee data, HR technology, payroll readiness, and the tools needed to support employees from Day 1. Communication planning ensures leaders have the messages, FAQs, and support channels required to answer employee questions quickly and consistently.
This is what disciplined HR integration looks like. Prepared leaders. Clear accountability. And a Day 1 that goes smoothly because it was planned well.
